Sustainable business pioneer Dave Smith is the Editor/Publisher of this blog, OrganicToBe; is author of To Be Of Use; and was cofounder of Smith & Hawken whose mission was providing sturdy hand tools to organic and biodynamic garden farmers. He was an executive assistant to Cesar Chavez and cofounder of Briarpatch Natural Foods Co-op in Menlo Park, California.
Dave has held leadership positions in Real Goods, SelfCare, Seeds of Change, Diamond Organics, Organic Bouquet, and Organic To Go. He has served on the boards of directors of Ecology Action, Ukiah Natural Foods, and Mendocino Environmental Center in Mendocino County, California; and is cofounder of Mendocino Organic Network, an alliance of farmers and citizens promoting local, organic, and sustainable farming.
Dave and wife Beverly are proprietors of Mulligan Books in downtown Ukiah, Mendocino County, North California.
